Age Requirements |
Pre-Kindergarten - 4 years
Kindergarten - 5 years
First Grade - 6 years
State law requires that in order to enroll, students must reach the stated age on or before September 1 of the current year. |
| Immunizations |
Polio: Three doses through age 17, with the last dose after the fourth birthday.
Diphtheria-Tetanus (DTP/DTaP/DT): Three doses, with the last dose after the fourth birthday. A booster is required ever ten years thereafter. (As of 8-1-1996, children age 5 through 6 will need four doses of DTP/DTaP/DT, including one dose since the fourth birthday.)
Measles (Rubeola): Two doses of measles vaccine are required after the first birthday for all students age 5 years and older who are born after September 2, 1991. Students born prior to September 2, 1991 must show proof of two doses of measles vaccine as they become 12 years old. The second measles vaccine may be received as part of a second MMR (measles, mumps, rubella).
Mumps: One dose after the first birthday.
Rubella: One dose after the first birthday.
Haemophilus Influenza Type B (HIB): One dose between 18 months and 5 years of age
Hepatitis B: Effective 8-1-1998, three doses are required for students age 5 and older who are born on or after September 2, 1992. Students whose twelfth birthday occurs on or after September 2, 2000 must show proof by 30 days after their twelfth birthday of having received 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine.
Viricella (chickenpox): Children born on or after September 2, 1994 are required to have received 1 dose of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or to present documentation of previous chickenpox illness. Students whose 12th birthday occurs on or after September 2, 2000 must show proof by 30 days after their 12th birthday of either having received one dose of chickenpox vaccine or having previously had chickenpox illness.
All new immunization histories of measles and mumps illness must be confirmed by a serologic test (blood work-up). Physician confirmation of prior measles or mumps illness will no longer be acceptable in place of vaccination.
Additional recommendations include a TB test for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and new students to the school district. |
| Required Documents |
Copies of the student's Social Security card, birth certificate and immunization records are required at the first time of registration for Henderson schools.

| Residency |
Proof of permanent, legal residency within the physical boundaries of HISD may be required.
