Montgomery Counseling Center

The counselor at Montgomery is Claude Robinson. Mr. Robinson has a B. A. in education and a M. ED. in counseling. He has sixteen years teaching experience and 19 years school counseling experience.

At Montgomery, we not only want our students to succeed academically but also to grow in their understanding of themselves and others, plus give them the tools to keep themselves safe. Classroom sessions are held in each classroom every other week that are geared toward meeting that goal.

Sessions involve lessons on study skills (5), understanding self and others (4), conflict resolutions (4), Yello Dyno (Anti-victimization program furnished by the Child Advocacy Center of Rusk County (2), and drug awareness (1).

Students may see the counselor simply by asking, by teacher referral, or by parent referral. Students can talk with the counselor at any time whether they are happy or sad. They may see him about their school work or behavior. They may also want to talk about themselves or their relationships with others.

The counselor stresses good behavior, study skills, and coping with conflict. He talks to parents about how students get along with others, how students are doing with their school work, and about how special their children are.

The counselor coordinates the Little Eagle program that involves volunteers from the community who come to eat with and encourage a student once a week. The counselor also coordinates the C.U.B.S. (Children Using Behavior Sensibly) Club. This club recognizes our students that show excellent behavior. The counselor also co-ordinates 504 meetings and Montgomery Intervention Team meetings (MIT), which is a student assistance team that helps teachers help students to reach their full potential; and finally, the counselor helps with RPTE, TOP, and ITBS testing plus other miscellaneous activities.
