HENDERSON, TX - Henderson ISD trustees formally canvassed the returns today from the recent school board election. The canvassing was the only item on agenda for Friday’s special meeting. Trustees heard a report from the district’s elections administrator, Amanda Wallace, updating the trustees on the final vote totals.

The election included two at-large trustee positions, both which were open seats this election cycle. Both Jon Johnston and Drew Butler, the incumbents holding those two seats, chose not to run for reelection, opening the race up to a field of seven candidates to be elected by the entire HISD district.

Loy Dorsey and Shannon Coats were the top two candidates receiving the most of the votes Tuesday, setting them up to take over the open seats. The vote totals included: Loy Dorsey, 1,514; Shannon B. Coats, 1,289; Rachelle Thrasher, 1,148; Vickie Murillo, 401; Dee Lee Conway Smith, 322; Rand Cates, 256; and Lance McNew, 192.

Dorsey and Coats will be sworn in as trustees at the beginning of the trustees’ regular monthly meeting, November 14, 2023.
