Keeping students safe is one of HISD’s primary goals and we often teach and practice how to respond in situations that could be dangerous. In fact, the Texas Education Code (TEC) requires districts such as HISD to train in a variety of areas on a regular basis. In accordance with TEC, Sec. 38.030, we will offer instruction each year to students in grade 7 or higher on how to use a bleeding control station so students will know how to use it if it is ever needed. The training is offered in two parts to students enrolled at the campus in grades seven or higher. The first part is online training, and the second part is in-person skills training. Stop the Bleed training for students is not mandatory; it is voluntary. If you would like your student to participate in Stop the Bleed training, please follow the instructions below:
• Go to the HISD website at www.hendersonisd.org
• Under Departments click on “Health Services”
• Click on “About Health Services”
• Scroll to the bottom of the “HISD Health and Wellness” page and click on the link, “Optional Stop the Bleed Training for Students”.
The letter will give you instructions on how to complete the online training and in-person skills training.

We want to inform you about an important upcoming presentation at HMS that will address critical health topics for our students: Tucker's Law. As part of HISD’s commitment to student health and wellness, the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is working to ensure that our students are well-informed. We will be addressing HB 3908, also known as Tucker’s Law, which mandates that all school districts provide research-based instruction on fentanyl abuse prevention and drug poisoning awareness. This law requires schools to educate students in grades 6-12 about these crucial issues, helping to ensure their safety.
Tucker’s Law instruction covers:
• Suicide prevention
• Prevention of the abuse of and addiction to fentanyl
• Awareness of local school and community resources and any process involved in accessing those resources
• Health education that includes information about substance use and abuse, including youth substance use and abuse
The Texas Department of State Health Services will be leading the presentation at HMS. The presentation will take place during each grade level’s Advisory period on October 23rd.

What is Proposition A?
Proposition A gives Henderson voters the opportunity to decide whether Henderson ISD can access additional funding for day-to-day school operations. If approved, Proposition A is projected to provide approximately $3.5 million in additional annual revenue for HISD, including about $2.3 million generated locally and $1.2 million in additional state funding through the Texas school finance system.
These are operating dollars, not bond dollars. They would support the district’s General Fund, which pays for the people, programs and services involved in educating students each day. Under Texas law, voter approval is required for school districts to raise and access certain portions of their M&O tax rate. Over the next several weeks, we’ll continue breaking down Proposition A and what options are available for Henderson ISD.

🎉 Henderson ISD earns a B!
The 2026 TEA accountability ratings are out, and Henderson ISD earned an overall B rating, while our campuses earned a combined SEVEN state distinction designations!
🦁 Henderson High School earned an 89 overall and FIVE distinctions in Reading/ELA, Science, Academic Growth, Postsecondary Readiness and Closing the Gaps.
🔬 Henderson Middle School and Northside each earned a distinction for Academic Achievement in Science.
These results reflect a lot of hard work by our students and staff, and while we still have work to do, we're proud of the progress happening across Henderson ISD!

Our bus drivers do a great job, and they are working hard to get students to and from school safely each day. During these first few days, some buses may run a little later than expected as drivers get familiar with new routes, stops and students.

If your child requires medication during the school day—whether prescription or over-the-counter—a physician’s order and parent/guardian permission are both required for the school nurse to administer it.
