Dear HISD Families,
This morning during Field Day, a middle school student suffered a seizure at Lion Stadium. Teachers and staff, along with campus administrators, immediately provided first aid to the student. Out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with the student’s parents, paramedics were called to the campus and transported the student to the hospital for further evaluation. Fortunately, the student was not injured during the incident and is reportedly doing well. Since the incident was witnessed by several students, we wanted to notify all middle school parents about the incident. We appreciate our students, all of whom were helpful and cooperative as staff cared for the student. Our thoughts remain with the student and we wish the student a quick and full recovery.

A Henderson ISD bus was struck from behind by another vehicle just after 4 p.m. this afternoon while the bus was stopped at a bus stop. All six students on the bus as well as the bus driver were uninjured. Law enforcement officers responded to the scene. Although the bus sustained relatively minor damage, a second bus was dispatched to complete the bus route. HISD appreciates the bus driver in keeping our students safe.
(May 18, 2023) This morning, a student notified Henderson Middle School administrators that a fellow student had a possible weapon. Administrators immediately located the student and discovered a BB gun. The weapon was not loaded and no BBs were found. Once the weapon was reported, employees followed strict protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff. The initial investigation by administrators determined the student had possibly shown it to children on a school bus earlier this morning. All students are safe and since the incident occurred before school began, there was no disruption to normal campus activities. A full investigation into the case is ongoing and the student code of conduct, along with all appropriate disciplinary actions, will be enforced. END OF YEAR MEDICATION PICK UP
It’s that time of year again! Please remember to pick up your child’s medication(s) from the Nurse’s Office before school gets out for Summer. Medication not picked up will be discarded May 26th.
If your child is a car rider, medication can be sent home in their backpack as long as you send a note stating to do so. If your child rides the bus, you must pick up the medication at your child’s campus. Medication is not allowed on the bus.
If your child is attending Summer Academy, a new medication permission form will need to be filled out when you take the medication to the campus.

Henderson ISD is deeply saddened by the recent death of one of our Henderson Middle School students. He will be greatly missed by classmates, friends, teachers and staff. We have grief counseling and support services available to our students and staff. Our thoughts remain with the family during this very difficult time.

Free UIL Physicals available for some HHS Students
The UIL requires physicals for certain students who will participate in athletics, band, and other UIL activities. As an HISD Community Partner, UT Health will provide UIL physicals at no cost for the following students:
• Current 10th graders who will be in 11th grade athletics, band (including twirl), cheer, or drill team in 2023-24.
The physicals will take place on April 20th at HHS. Your child will bring home a physical form this week. Please fill out and sign the ‘Medical History’ form. The form MUST have a parent signature for your child to receive a free physical. Please have your child return the signed form to their coach, director, or sponsor by April 18th.
