Henderson police officers have reportedly taken a juvenile into custody in connection with recent threats made on social media against Henderson Middle School. The action comes following a two-day investigation initiated by HMS administrators and continued by the Henderson Police Department. The incident began early Friday morning when a number of students reported seeing a social media post threatening to “shoot up” the school. After the initial investigation, administrators determined there was no imminent danger. However, HISD authorities and Henderson police officers continued investigating, eventually working with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in order to uncover who was responsible for the threats. According to HPD, once the identity of the poster was discovered, authorities took a juvenile into custody for making “terroristic threats.” There is no other known threat at this time. The safety of our students and staff remains Henderson ISD’s top priority and we are appreciative of both the students who quickly reported this threat to teachers and the Henderson Police Department for their efforts and ongoing commitment to protect the students and staff of HISD.

HISD Families - This morning the district was made aware of an anonymous social media post with a vague but threatening message. We have been investigating the report and shared it with law enforcement but have not found any viable, active threats to any campus. We will continue to monitor social media and other channels as we work to protect our students and staff. All students are safe at this time and campuses continue to operate under normal schedules. Our priority remains the safety of our students and staff and we will update you If any new information arises. - - HISD Admin

Dear HISD Families, The safety and health of our students, staff, and visitors is a priority and we want to be prepared to save the life of anyone exposed, even accidentally, to dangerous opioid drugs, such as fentanyl. Recent action by the Texas Legislature (Senate Bill 629) allows school districts to implement a policy regarding, “the maintenance, administration, and disposal of opioid antagonists” at each campus in the district. These opioid antagonists can counter the effects of an overdose if administered quickly. HISD has trained nurses, School Resource Officers (SROs), and staff who may administer Narcan, (Naloxone) an opioid antagonist, in the event of a possible drug overdose. Narcan will only be given in an emergency situation where someone is experiencing drug overdose symptoms or if it is known that drugs are involved. Narcan will not harm someone if opioids are not in their system. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Gatlin, HISD Health and Wellness Coordinator, at 903-655-5037.

We wanted to provide you with information regarding an incident that occurred earlier this afternoon at our school. The safety and security of our students and staff are our top priorities, and we are committed to keeping you informed about any situations that arise. This afternoon, an incident occurred in the parking lot at the Wylie Primary School campus involving an individual who exhibited unruly behavior and made threats concerning himself and the campus. Thanks to our campus’ School Resource Officers (SROs), who were on-site, the situation was swiftly and effectively resolved. The individual in question was promptly detained and later arrested by law enforcement. Throughout the incident, all students were safe and not in any immediate danger. A thorough investigation is currently underway to understand the details surrounding the incident and to prevent any similar occurrences in the future. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure that the appropriate actions are taken. We understand that such incidents can be alarming and unsettling for families and students. Our campus staff, SROs, and local police officers acted swiftly to handle the situation, and we commend their efforts in maintaining a secure environment for our school community. Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all students.

Statement concerning medical incident at WPS - This afternoon a student had a medical incident at Wylie Primary School. The classroom teacher, along with campus administrators and the campus nurse, immediately responded to provide first aid to the student. Paramedics were called to the campus and transported the student to the hospital for further evaluation. The campus was placed on a temporary hold in order to provide easy access for first responders. Students were required to remain in their classes during the hold. Due to the hold, and the fact that several students were impacted by the incident, we wanted to notify all primary school families about the situation. Witnessing a medical incident can create a lot of questions for young children. We encourage you to speak with your child if they, especially if they saw the incident. Feel free to reach out to the campus nurse or our district health and wellness coordinator if you need helping guiding the conversation. Our thoughts remain with the student and we wish the student a quick and full recovery.

Statement concerning medical incident at HHS - This morning a student had a medical incident at Henderson High School. The classroom teacher, along with campus administrators and the campus nurse, immediately responded to provide first aid to the student. Paramedics were called to the campus and transported the student to the hospital for further evaluation. The school was placed on a temporary hold for about 40 minutes in order to provide easy access for first responders. Students were required to remain in their classes during the hold. Due to the hold, and the fact that several students were impacted by the incident, we wanted to notify all high school parents about the situation. We appreciate our students in the classroom, all of whom were helpful and cooperative as staff cared for the student with the medical issue. Our thoughts remain with the student and we wish the student a quick and full recovery.
