Dear Henderson ISD Community,
Early this morning, three teenagers boarded an HISD school bus. Once the bus driver identified that none of the teens were currently enrolled in HISD, the driver confronted them, and they fled from the bus. They were later identified by law enforcement.
All students are safe. We are working closely with the Henderson Police Department to investigate this incident and will enforce all applicable state laws and local policies regarding any violations that may have occurred.
As always, the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We encourage families to remind their students to report any unusual activity or concerns, whether on the buses or at school, to a teacher or other staff member immediately.

Congratultions to Henderson High School's Teacher of the Year! Mr. Driver started working in Henderson ISD as a General Laborer/Maintenace worker in 2018. In 2022, he decided to pursue a teaching degree and has been serving as a Welding/Construction Teacher at Henderson High School. his hard work and long hours dedicated to helping students with ag show projects or helping fix a co-worker's desk. He is always helping others. In my 15 years of teaching, I have met few teachers who have impacted and changed students' lives as Mr. Driver has in his short time with Henderson High School, and I wholeheartedly affirm there is no teacher more deserving of Teacher of the Year.” Mr. Driver, Thank you for your dedication to the teaching profession and the students of Henderson ISD!

Congratulations to Henderson Middle School's Teacher of the Year! Mr. Watkins has been teaching art at Henderson Middle School since 2016. His nominator says, “Over the past four years, it has been my honor to work alongside Mr. Watkins. When you think about the role of middle school art teacher, you might wonder who in their right mind would sign up. Middle schoolers, by nature, are strange. They are in a phase of life where they are pushing boundaries and trying to find their way in life. To teach them requires an enormous amount of patience, compassion, and resilience, all of which are traits that Mr. Watkins lives out every day. I have never seen him at his desk. He spends his time with the kids working alongside them. He coaches them, encourages them, and pours into them daily, and if he grows tired of doing so it never shows. I have also witnessed how Mr. Watkins goes above and beyond by offering students guitar lessons after school to encourage them to get their work done in other classes. He has grown our art program and established a successful art club. Congratulations Mr. Watkins! Thank you for your dedication to the teaching profession and the students of Henderson ISD!

It’s that time of year again! Please remember to pick up your child’s medication(s) from the Nurse’s Office before school gets out for Summer. Medication not picked up will be discarded May 24th.

An HISD bus was involved in a minor, two-vehicle accident this afternoon on Evenside Street. All students and staff on the bus are safe. Police responded to the scene, but the bus will be completing its route and delivering students to their homes. Following district protocols, administrators are attempting to contact families of each student on the bus to inform them of the situation. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority and we appreciate everyone who assisted this afternoon.

Texas Education Code 28.004 requires school districts to establish a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). SHAC responsibilities include, but are not limited to, making recommendations to the school board concerning health program planning and health promotion.
The majority of SHAC members must be parents not employed with HISD and have students enrolled in the district. If you're a parent of an HISD student, not employed by the district, and are interested in serving on SHAC for the 2024-2025 school year, please click the link below and fill out the google form.

Optional Stop the Bleed Training for Students
Keeping students safe is one of HISD’s primary goals and we often teach and practice how to respond in situations that could be dangerous. In fact, the Texas Education Code (TEC) requires districts such as HISD to train in a variety of areas on a regular basis. In accordance with TEC, Sec. 38.030, we will offer instruction each year on how to use a bleeding control station so students will know how to use it if it is ever needed. The training is offered in two parts to students enrolled at the campus in grades seven or higher. The first part is an online training and the second part is an in-person skills training. Stop the Bleed training for students is not mandatory; it is voluntary. If you would like your student to participate in Stop the Bleed training, please follow the instructions below:
• Go to the HISD website at www.hendersonisd.org
• Click on Menu
• Under Departments click on “Health Services”
• Scroll to the bottom of the “HISD Health and Wellness” page and click on “Optional Stop the Bleed Training for Students”. The letter will give you instructions on how to complete the online training and in-person skills training.
Please contact Stephanie Gatlin, HISD Health & Wellness Coordinator, at 903-655-5037 if you have any questions.

UPDATED COVID-19 GUIDELINES
With the recent changes in COVID-19 guidelines, HISD will follow the updated guidelines for respiratory viruses from the CDC and Texas Department of State Health Services for students and staff.
If you test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19, stay home and away from others until you are 24 hours fever-free without fever-reducing medication and your symptoms are improving.
If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Gatlin, HISD Health and Wellness Coordinator, at sgatlin@hendersonisd.org or 903-655-5037.

Tonight our Board recognized Agustin Martinez, Viv Luna & Amparo Zermono their excellent service to students! #LiveLikeYouROAR!

Dear HISD Families,
Wylie Primary School will be conducting a required lockdown drill this Wednesday (March 6, 2024). This exercise is a part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Preparing for all types of emergencies is a responsibility HISD takes very seriously.
Law enforcement officials will also be supporting the exercise to provide expertise and to practice responding to the scene. People driving by may notice an increased police presence outside the buildings during this brief drill.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
