We are greatly saddened by the loss of one of our 3rd Grade students and his father in a tragic car accident earlier today. Three more of our students were also injured in the accident. Counselors will be available tomorrow for both our students and our staff. Our hearts are heavy and we grieve with the families in this most difficult of times.

Ooops! We want to let elementary and primary parents know we had a student at WES accidentally set off the fire alarm during student pick-up. There was no emergency and everyone is fine, but fire crews responded before it got canceled. Sorry first responders -- We appreciate you!

Paramedics check out student after hard fall - Around noon today at Northside Intermediate School a student experienced a hard fall on the playground. Following the proper health and safety protocols, the campus nurse treated the student on the scene and contacted the parents. Out of an abundance of caution, local paramedics responded to the school in case the child had sustained a severe injury. Paramedics cleared the child and the child is doing well. Since the incident happened on the playground and several students witnessed it, administrators wanted the public to be informed of the disruption to the normal day. HISD truly appreciates the cooperation of our first responders when situations like this arise.

District investigates report of threatening statement - This morning at Henderson Middle School, a student made threatening statements that were overheard by other students. District administrators were immediately notified of the situation and the school began implementing proper safety protocols in cooperation with our own school resource officers and local law enforcement. An initial investigation determined there had been no danger to any student or staff at any time and no weapons were found. While most students were unaware of the incident, administrators want the public to be informed when such disruptions to the school day occur. Henderson ISD remains committed to providing a safe educational environment for all students. A further investigation into this incident is ongoing and HISD will strictly enforce all appropriate discipline measures.

Dear parents and community supporters,
In the course of an otherwise normal school day, medical emergencies can unfortunately arise. One of our students had a seizure this morning at Wylie Elementary. Thanks in part to the Wylie staff and local paramedics who responded to the school, the child is doing well and was not injured. However, the incident and the emergency response was certainly out of the ordinary for the Wylie campus which is why we wanted to make parents and the community aware of what had happened. The campus nurse spoke with all the students who witnessed the incident. She explained what happened (in an age-appropriate manner) and answered the students’ questions. Our thoughts remain with the child and the family and we wish the student a speedy recovery! - HISD Communications
