HISD remains committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for our students and staff. As a part of that effort, we are revising our COVID protocols using the recommendations from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and our own health and wellness staff. The following guidelines will be used when determining when a student or staff member who is suspected of having COVID may return to school. CONDITIONS FOR RE-ENTRY WITH A POSITIVE TEST OR COVID SYMPTOMS: Students: • Students with symptoms (with or without a positive test) may return to school after at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, 24 hours fever free (without fever-reducing medication), and an improvement of symptoms. Day 1 starts the day after symptom onset. • Students who test positive for COVID-19 but do not have any symptoms must stay home until at least 5 days after the day they were tested. Day 1 starts the day after the student was tested. Staff: • Staff who have COVID-19 symptoms (with or without a test) may return to school once they are 24 hours fever free (without fever-reducing medication). • Staff who have symptoms with no fever may return when their symptoms improve. (If exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and you choose to not get tested, you are presumed positive and must follow the above criteria to return to school.) Exposure: • If you are exposed to someone with COVID-19 (and are symptom free), it is the decision of the staff member or student’s parent to quarantine. Tests: • Rapid COVID testing is available at HISD campuses until October 9th or once we use all of our tests; whichever comes first. Testing can take place after a consent form is filled out by the employee or parent/legal guardian. A parent/legal guardian must be present if a student is tested. Please contact your campus nurse to schedule an appointment for testing. Testing will be available during regular school hours (no weekends or holidays). HISD will not have COVID testing available after October 9th or once we use all of our tests; whichever comes first. Please advise that these guidelines are subject to change based on new information that may arise concerning COVID-19.

Henderson ISD Trustees have named Dea Henry the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. Henry, who has served as a principal at both Henderson High School and Northside Elementary, brings to the role several years of administrative and teaching experience. Henry’s promotion not only fills a vacancy left by the departure of Dr. Stephanie Bonneau, who recently accepted a position at Mansfield ISD, it also triggered a series of moves in campus leadership at the high school and middle school. The board named Shannon Dickerson as the new Henderson High School principal and Russell Wylie as principal of Henderson Middle School. Dickerson was serving as HMS principal and Wylie as an assistant principal at the high school.

Henderson ISD’s Shannon Dickerson has been named Middle School Principal of the Year for Region 7 by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP). The honor was recently announced by Nathan Heflin, the Region 7 Coordinator for TASSP, along with recipients in the assistant principal and high school principal categories. “These deserving candidates have proven themselves as leaders on their campuses and leaders in our profession,” said Heflin. "I am so pleased to see Mrs. Dickerson recognized for her hard work and dedication to Henderson ISD," added Harold Sentmore, chairman of the HISD Board of Trustees. "Her passion for empowering all students to achieve their dreams is contagious. The board is very proud and excited for her." “Mrs. Dickerson has done a masterful job of shaping the conditions for the teachers and students to learn and experience high levels of success,” said Superintendent Dr. Thurston Lamb. “The strong leadership she exemplifies is essential in the quest for preparing our students for tomorrow.” Dicherson has served as principal of Henderson Middle School since 2016, having served as a principal, assistant principal and classroom teacher before that. Dickerson will now represent Region 7 for the honor of principal of the year at the state level.
