Free UIL Physicals available for some HMS Students
The UIL requires physicals for certain students who will participate in athletics, band, and other UIL activities. As an HISD Community Partner, UT Health will provide UIL physicals at no cost for the following students:
• Current 6th graders who will be in 7th grade athletics, twirling and cheerleading in 2023-24.
• Current 8th graders who will be in 9th grade athletics, band (including twirling), cheerleading, or drill team in 2023-24.
The physicals will take place on April 12th at HMS. Your child will bring home a physical form this week. Please fill out and sign the ‘Medical History’ form. The form MUST have a parent signature for your child to receive a free physical. Please have your child return the signed form to their coach, band director, or sponsor by April 10th.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Stephanie Gatlin, HISD Health and Wellness Coordinator, at 903-655-5037.
Information on physicals for high school students will be posted in the near future.
HISD received a report from a student at the Middle School campus today that they had heard about and had seen a threat to the campus posted on social media. We immediately took this report seriously and conducted a thorough investigation to determine the credibility of the threat.
After a detailed investigation involving a number of students and staff, we have found that the threat was unfounded and there is no evidence that there was ever any danger to our school or students. We take all threats seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of our students and staff.
We appreciate everyone who cooperated with this investigation and want to remind all students that if they ever hear or see anything that causes them concern, they should immediately report it to a trusted adult. It is important that we work together as a community to maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your campus principal. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school safe.

Henderson ISD is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Henderson High School Junior Josh Simpson. He will be missed by his fellow teammates as well as friends, teachers and staff. Counselors will be available Tuesday at the high school for any students or staff members who want to meet with them. Our thoughts remain with the Simpson family during this very difficult time.
This afternoon at Northside Intermediate School, an adult visitor attending a classroom party suffered a medical emergency. The Northside campus was placed on a brief “hold” while the campus nurse and other staff assisted the visitor. Paramedics were called to the scene and the person was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Since this resulted in a minor disruption to the instructional day, we wanted to notify all parents about the incident. We wish the person a speedy recovery.
This morning we planned a much-anticipated event that kids look forward to every year; handing out the 2021-2022 HHS Yearbook. As a parent, alumni and, most importantly, as the HHS Principal, I was greatly disappointed. The 2021-2022 High School Yearbook does not meet our tradition of excellence. A yearbook should give you the opportunity to look back and remember the best of times. It should celebrate all of our student organizations, their activities, and their successes. It should recall the people, the places and the events that made that year memorable. The 2021-2022 Yearbook does not. I trust that our students last year put in a tremendous amount of work gathering information, writing captions and articles and building pages. However, not all of their work made it to the printed product.
I am committed to making this right for the Class of 2022 and other HHS students. If you have paid for a 2021-2022 Yearbook, we will deliver a product worthy of your expectations as quickly as possible. We have spoken with the company that prints our yearbook to begin the process of printing a new, complete book. It will include all of our students, our student organizations, and the memories you have come to expect. In short, with a little patience and maybe even some of your help along the way, we will create a Henderson High School Yearbook for 2022 we can all be proud of.
